Craig here with some more information on what we do at New Year in Scotland.  New Years’ eve in Scotland is actually called Hogmanay.

こんにちは、クレイグです。今回はスコットランドでのお正月について話したいと思います。実はスコットランドでは大晦日をホグマネイといいます。

At 12am we also sing a well-known song in Japan to welcome the New Year.  It’s called Auld Lang Syne and it was written by a famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns.

またスコットランド全国では午前0時になると、日本でよく知られている曲を歌います。

ロバート・バーンズというスコットランドの有名な詩人によって作成された民謡です。英語ではオールドラングサインと呼ばれています。

Most Japanese people know this song as Hotaru No Hikari but it’s actually an old Scottish folk song! The lyrics also talk about forgetting bad things in the past and welcoming what the future brings.

この曲は日本では蛍の光と呼ばれています。英語の歌詞の意味は【嫌なことを忘れ前向きに未来のことを考えましょう】です。
