We decided to do a new section called sports idiom of the week. Here is the first one.
To drop the ball
This idiom comes from rugby and American football.
It means to make a mistake.
We use it in everyday conversation all the time!
For example:
“Did you make that reservation for next week?”
来週の予約取れた？
“Oh, man I totally forgot!”
あっやばい！完全に忘れた！
“What? Seriously?”
え？まじで？
“Yeah man, I dropped the ball…sorry!”
うん、ミスった…ごめん！
