Here is the second entry in my Fun English Fact series.

2. “Gift” and “Present” are basically used for the same purpose. But there is a slight difference between the two words which most people don’t know.

2. 「Gift」と「Present」は基本的に同じ目的で使用されます。しかし、ほとんどの人が知らない二つの単語の間にはわずかな違いがあります。

A present is like a gift itself, but it should be presented. Both these words are used for transfer of possession without the exchange of money.

プレゼントはギフトそのもののようなものですが、プレゼントされるべきです。これらの単語はどちらも、お金の交換なしに所有権を移転するために使用されます。

Also, both the words have different origins.

また、両方の単語は異なる起源を持っています。

Present comes from the Old French Word present and Medieval Latin presentia.

プレゼントは、古フランス語の単語プレゼントと中世ラテン語のプレゼンティアから来ています。
