Craig here with some information on what we do at New Year in Scotland.  New Years’ eve in Scotland is actually called Hogmanay.

Unlike Japan, we usually go to parties and spend our time with friends at this time of year. We often also have traditional Scottish dances.

They are called Ceilidhs (Kay lees).  Here is some information for you.

日本と違って、スコットランド人は大晦日によくパーティに行き友達と過ごします。セイリッドという伝統的なダンスもあります。

There are some famous Hogmanay celebrations in Scotland.  The most famous is probably in the capital, Edinburgh.  There are fireworks and street parades.

スコットランドではホグマネイの祝いやお祭りがたくさんあります。その中で最も有名なのはやっぱり首都であるエディンバラのお正月パーティです。花火大会やパレードなど色々あります。

Another one is a parade where people swing fireballs in the streets in Stonehaven.

もう一つの有名なパレードはストーンヘーブン市のファイヤーボールパレードです。

パレードの参加者は近くの海で拾った流木やごみで手作りのボールを作り、それを鎖に繋ぎます。

午前0時になると、そのボールに火をつけ、そのまま頭の上で振り回しながら都心から海まで練り歩きます。海についたら、そのボールを海に投げ込みます。
