Just  some thoughts on sports day from me.   The way they do things in Japan is much more focused on working together and participating than winning and losing.

私にとって初めての履正社の体育祭の感想を投稿したいと思います。日本の体育祭は勝ち負けよりも人が交流し、力を合わせることを中心に行われていると感じました。

I like the atmosphere and the fact that it’s not too serious.

勝敗にこだわらずに「楽しもう！」という雰囲気でしたので、学生が少しの間、日々の勉強を忘れストレスを解散するいい機会になったと思います。

When I was in school, I did a lot of track and field events.  I specialized in 100 and 200 as well as long jump.

私は、学校時代に陸上部の部員としていろいろな種目に取り組みました。得意種目は100・200メートルと走り幅跳びでした。

Let me tell you a little about the sports days I went to when I lived in Scotland.

スコットランドの学校の体育祭を紹介したいと思います。

It was all athletic events and much more like an athletic meet.

種目はオリンピックによく見るような種目で体育祭の雰囲気もアスレティック大会に近かったです。

Before our sports day, we were split into groups or “houses” and we had to choose what events we want to compete in.

体育祭の前に全校生徒がチームに分けられ競争しないといけませんでした。生徒は自分のグループの代表として出場する種目を選びます。

A big difference is that the people competing on sports day were chosen through heats and the sports day was like a final.

大きな違いの一つは、それぞれのチーム代表者は種目の予選に出場し勝ち抜くことを条件に、体育祭当日の決勝トーナメントに進出できます。

The students that didn’t qualify had to come and cheer on the students from their house.

予選で敗退した生徒は体育祭の日に自分のチームを応援しに行きます。

On sports day, all of the finalists compete for points for their bouse and the house with the most points at the end of the day wins a cup!

体育祭当日にはそれぞれのチーム代表がポイントを取るために競争します。すべての種目が終了し一番点数が多かったチームの勝ちとなります。最後に表彰式を開き優勝トロフィーももらいます！

I guess it’s not too far from Harry Potter in some ways!

よく考えてみたら、ハリーポッターに似たような感じですね！
